You must carefully consider SAP's trademark usage guidelines when mentioning SAP offerings in your materials or in connection with your own products or product names. You must always make a clear and unambiguous distinction between your own solutions, products, and/or services and the SAP offerings mentioned.
SAP accepts no responsibility for any violation of legal regulations regarding competition or trademarks by partners. In addition to these guidelines, country-specific regulations may apply.
Unregistered or pending trademarks bear the ™ symbol. Registered trademarks carry the ® symbol. A selection of SAP trademarks, both registered and pending, as well as a selection of SAP offering names, are listed in this guide. Please use these names and their symbols according to the guidelines that follow.
The only use that does not require the symbols is a Web application or other onscreen presentation where the low resolution of the medium renders the symbol illegible. However, in such case please attribute SAP trademarks used in this fashion on the attribution page of the application or presentation in accordance with the "Trademark Attribution" section of these guidelines.
To ensure correct use of SAP trademarks, follow these guidelines:
In any material that mentions any SAP trademark, you must include the correct attribution statement based on the following:
"<SAP TRADEMARKS> is/are the trademark(s) or registered trademark(s) of SAP SE in Germany and in several other countries."
In your attribution statement, replace the placeholder phrase <SAP TRADEMARKS> with the names of the SAP trademarks mentioned in your material. Place the statement either on the copyright page (which may be the case in a brochure) or at the end of a material if it has no copyright page (in an advertisement or a press release, for example).
You may mention the names of SAP offerings when describing their compatibility with your own programs or applications. But as an SAP partner or other third party, you may not include the name "SAP," a logo of SAP, a trademark of SAP, the name of an SAP offering or similar variations into your own product or service name, company name, domain name, or any of your logos.
When referring to product compatibility, you must make a clear distinction between your products or services and those of SAP. The name of your offering and the name of the SAP offering must be clearly distinguished from one another either visually or by the wording. You can accomplish this goal in a variety of ways in running text and in headlines, signs, or other materials. Also, when referring to your product's compatibility with an SAP offering, please mention your company name in addition to your product name.
When expressing compatibility, you must not allow your offering's name to appear to include an SAP trademark. For example, names such as "SAP® Extender," "SAP® ERP Mapper," "Indexer for SAP NetWeaver™," "NetWeaverExtension," and any name that encompasses a trademark of SAP or an offering name of SAP, including SAP Business One and SAP Business All-in-One, are strictly prohibited.
Do not state or imply that your product is produced or authorized by SAP. For example, do not represent your training programs as "authorized SAP training."
When you describe product compatibility, you may refer to an SAP offering name but never solely to compatibility with "SAP."
Incorrect example:
< Your company name> <your product name> for SAP
Correct example:
< Your company name> <your product name> for use with SAP® Business All-in-One
When referring to an SAP offering name, please use the complete, correct SAP offering name. Refer to the selection of SAP offering names within this guide or contact your SAP partner manager for information.
Incorrect example:
Our product runs with SAP®.
Correct example:
Our product runs with SAP® Business Suite.
In text sentences, you may use phrases such as the following to refer to your offering's compatibility with SAP software:
However, you must take care to use them appropriately, as demonstrated in the following examples.
Correct examples:
< Your company name> <your product name> is designed for use with SAP® R/3®.
< Your company name> <your product name> is compatible with SAP® R/3®.
Do not use any grammatical construction that implies the SAP trademark or SAP offering name is part of your offering's name.
Unacceptable example:
< Your company name> <your product name> for SAP® ERP provides extended functionality.
The above example is unacceptable because the reader could interpret your product name to be "<Your product name> for SAP ERP." Change any such construction to clearly separate and distinguish your offering name from the SAP trademark.
Corrected example:
< Your company name> <your product name> provides extended functionality for users of SAP® ERP.
It is particularly important to avoid making your product name appear to include an SAP trademark or an SAP offering name when the reference is in a title or headline, trade show signage, product packaging, CD label, or any other material.
Within headlines, signage, and other materials, you may use phrases such as the following to refer to your offering's compatibility with SAP software:
However, you must always clearly visually differentiate your product name from the compatibility reference to an SAP offering.
Unacceptable examples:
< Your company name> <your product name> for SAP® Business Suite
< Your company name> <your product name> for Use with SAP® ERP
To correct this, use a type size for the SAP offering name that is noticeably smaller than the type size for your offering name. Or use a different font or a different style, such as italics, for the SAP name.
Corrected examples:
< Your company name> <your product name> for SAP® Business Suite
< Your company name> <your product name> for Use with SAP® ERP
The above examples are acceptable because your product name and the compatibility references "for SAP® Business Suite" and "for Use with SAP® ERP are visually set apart.
Another option would be to place your product name in the title and to show the compatibility reference as a subtitle in a different type size, font, or style.
Example:
< Your company name> <your product name> for SAP® Business Suite
Consider the following questions to determine if a particular product or service name, compatibility reference, marketing communication, or packaging may pose a problem to SAP and its trademarks:
If the answer to any of these questions is "Yes," then you should change your product or service name, the compatibility reference, your marketing communication, or packaging to reflect proper usage.
Only use the phrase "powered by" in the "Powered by SAP NetWeaver" context. Do not use "powered by" to describe compatibility with other SAP offerings.
Incorrect example:
< Your company name> <your product name> is powered by SAP® Business Suite.
